The horrific events of October 7, 2023, the significant rise in antisemitism that followed, and the Bondi terror attack in December 2025 have had a profound impact on Jewish communities across Australia.
In the aftermath of the Bondi terror attack, Jeremy Neumann reached out to a small group of clinicians to create a forum where mental health professionals could support one another and the broader community. Within a matter of weeks, the network grew to more than a hundred clinicians looking to connect, support one another and contribute to the community at a time of significant distress.
Recognising the need for a more enduring professional community, Jeremy Neumann and Rachmi Aron subsequently established Melbourne Jewish Mental Health Professionals (MJMHP), a multidisciplinary professional community focused on connection, mutual support, shared learning and collaboration, while strengthening the capacity of its members to contribute to the wellbeing of the wider community.
While the events following October 7 and the Bondi terror attack brought MJMHP together, our purpose reflects the belief that there is inherent value in Jewish clinicians coming together as a professional community. Our shared identity and experiences can enrich professional relationships, deepen understanding, strengthen culturally responsive practice and create opportunities for collaboration, learning and community support.
Today, MJMHP brings together mental health professionals from across disciplines and career stages. Through connection, professional development, collaboration, advocacy and community partnership, we are building an enduring professional community that supports its members, strengthens our collective capacity and contributes meaningfully to the mental health and wellbeing of Melbourne's Jewish community.
